Htc Evo Shift 4G review

Among all the other smartphones that Htc released last year, the Evo 4G positively stood out with its big screen, high execution and sustain for WiMax 4G networks. People positively loved the device, with the reviews being overwhelmingly positive, and it saw more sales than any other Cdma phone sold on Sprint in the Us.

Htc of course, decided to follow up on the name and just a week ago released the new Evo Shift 4G, which isn't positively a successor to the first Evo, as you might've thought, but rather a second model to complement the first one and gain more shop share for both Htc and Sprint (at least in the Us and Canada).

On the outside: a smaller screen and an perfect Qwerty keyboard

The new Htc Evo Shift 4G looks just like the Evo 4G when you look at it from the front, with the same faceplate fabricate and big round navigation buttons. But that's where the surface similarities end, because the new smartphone has a new 3.6 inch touch screen and more importantly, a slide out Qwerty keyboard - the same one as on the T-Mobile G2, which is the best one on smartphones to date.

The display is pretty good for its size, and at the same 480x800 resolution it lets you do practically anything you need without any problems. There are 4 touch-sensitive buttons below it - the usual Menu, Home, Back and quest for Android, and still no trackball or pad for navigating in documents and web pages. But that is no longer a problem, because the Qwerty keyboard private under the front piece has a nice D-pad just for that (and for games, of course:-). The keys are raised just sufficient to be comfortable for typing, and there is sufficient space in the middle of them for any kind of fingers.

The Evo Shift 4G is made of very nice materials: the front frame is a brushed aluminum piece, while the back plate is made of the soft rubbery plastic you can find on other Htc devices and which makes it seem more durable and absolutely scratch resistant. I think it's a much better blend than the extensive plastic end of the Evo 4G.

On the inside: the second generation Snapdragon and 512 Mb of Ram

The internal components have also been upgraded: the new processor gives you more execution at a lower frequency and lower power consumption than the older model, which is absolutely a good thing, while the 512 Mb of Ram is sufficient to run even the most reserved supply arduous apps at the same time without a hitch.

Sure enough, you'll also find the usual sustain for Gps, Wifi N, WiMax 802.16e, accelerometer, light sensor, compass and many other features, which are basically a must on all smartphones by now. The memory is provided by an external micro Sd card: an 8 Gb one comes in the package, but you can upgrade it to 32 Gb by buying your own card (higher capacity ones will also be ready in the near future).

The Evo Shift 4G can absolutely be a great smartphone that will complement Sprint's arsenals and sell along with the Evo 4G, not supersede it. The execution and features of the device will absolutely find its buyers; besides, you can never have sufficient Qwerty smartphones ready on the market!
